Using Variables Inside Content
Another great feature of NSEC, one which will be enhanced in the 2.0 versions, is the ability to use certain session variables within any other piece of content, regardless of if it's an article, template or another block.
One good example is in search results. When an individual search result is displayed, it is looped through with the information and replaces each variable that it finds. For example, in a search result to access the first name of the entity, you can use either <!--FIRST_NAME--> or %%FIRST_NAME%%.
Preference goes to the first example because if there is an accidental misspelling or if the variable is not accessible, then it will not be displayed on the resulting page. Whereas if you use the latter example, it will still be displayed the same as it was typed in to the content editor. It is good to use for testing so you can see what variables are not being displayed as they should. Another reason you would use the second example is if you are using the variable within a tag such as a link or image source. If you use the first example in these cases, you will receive an error as the special characters will be replaced once you save the content with the editor. The way to work around that, would be to remove the editor when managing content, then whatever is typed in will be saved rather than being converted by TinyMCE.
